  • The Red Cross thanked REBGV REALTORS® for their efforts raising money for the BC Flood Appeal.
  • You raised $110,000 to help cover interim housing, basic needs, and on-site assistance.

The Red Cross has written REBGV to thank REALTORS® for the generous $110,000 donation to help families and individuals affected by the devastating BC flood disaster in November. They wrote, “To the hundreds of Realtors who contributed, thanks to each of you for your incredible gifts in support of the BC Floods Appeal. This initiative represents an extraordinary effort to give back to your communities.”

Along with the donation made by members of the Fraser Valley Real Estate Board, the total amount Realtors raised for the Red Cross Floods and Extreme Weather Appeal was more than $134,000.

The damage caused by this disaster is extensive. Countless homes were destroyed or are in need of extensive repairs, and many families were displaced, which has created financial and emotional strain.

The Red Cross had raised over $30 million, and more than $17 million has been distributed in evacuation-related emergency financial assistance to more than 7,200 households.

In February, the Red Cross will begin to provide financial support to those who qualify to help cover their interim housing and basic needs as they move to longer-term housing. In addition to financial aid, Red Cross employees and volunteers have provided personal assistance and support where needed.

“The Canadian Red Cross will be here to support individuals, families, and communities in both their immediate and longer-term recovery needs,” said Pat Quealey, vice-president of the British Columbia and Yukon, Canadian Red Cross.
