Long-time REALTOR® Frank Kearney recently passed away. He was 96.

Frank was born in Dublin, Ireland in 1925. He received his early education in Gaelic and was a fine track runner and soccer player in his youth. After completing his schooling and spending a few years studying architecture, his adventurous spirit took him to Hong Kong where he met the love of his life, Susan (Hsiao).

Frank was a lifelong member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors and was working for the government in Hong Kong as a quantity surveyor when he met Susan one night at the Governor’s Ball. They married and moved to London, England, then back to Dublin, before settling permanently in Vancouver in 1958.

It was in Vancouver where he forged a lengthy career in real estate. He was first licensed in 1969 with Burrard Mortgage and Housing before moving to Wall and Redekop. He also led offices such as A.E. LePage Real Estate Services (now Royal LePage), the Montreal Trust Company of Canada, and Virani Real Estate Advisors as a managing broker. He retired from real estate in 2011.

"Frank was a dedicated volunteer with the Board of Directors at REBGV. He served as a director from 1974-80, Treasurer in 1981, Vice-President in 1982 and President in 1983. He was also a contributor to organized real estate in the province and across Canada, serving as director of both the BC Real Estate Association, the Canadian Real Estate Association, and the Real Estate Council of BC (now the BC Financial Services Authority). "

Outside of real estate, Frank was a natural athlete who loved competition. He enjoyed playing golf and tennis with Susan. They were also avid travellers who loved going on cruises and getting over to Hawaii as often as they could.

Frank is predeceased by his wife Susan. He’s survived by his son Peter (Katrin), grandchildren Sean and Liis, and other family members in Ireland and Canada. The family thanks Nurse Next Door, Hero Homecare, LGH and the Lynn Valley Care Centre for the excellent care Frank received.
