Brian Friedrich, a past appointed director with REBGV and principal of friedrich & friedrich corp., passed away unexpectedly in January. He was 52.

Along with his wife and professional partner, Laura, Brian spent most of his career helping build institutional capacity and developing strategic, policy, program, governance, and ethics guidance for established and emerging professional and regulatory organizations around the globe.

Throughout his career, Brian co-authored numerous publications centred on topics such as competency-based education, professional ethics, technology, sustainability, governance, and capacity development, with a focus on the future of professions.

Brian was a Life Member and Fellow of the Chartered Professional Accountants of BC (CPABC). He served on the CPABC (and legacy CGABC) board from 2008 to 2017, chairing the legacy association in 2015. He also represented Canada on the International Ethics Standards Board for Accountants, where he chaired its Technology Working Group and Technology Experts Group and served on the Sustainability Task Force.

"Brian made invaluable contributions to REBGV as a public director from 2015 to 2021. He also served on our audit committee from 2018 to 2023 and chaired the committee over the past two years. "

During his time serving as public director, Brian and Laura went on an expedition in Nunavut and Brian took REBGV’s flag to the summit of Barbeau Peak, the tallest mountain in eastern North America, pictured above.

Brian lived life to the fullest, on his own terms. He challenged all around him to push boundaries and question conventions. He impacted many lives and will be greatly missed.

In lieu of flowers, Brian's family requests that donations be made to your local Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, or your local Heart and Stroke Foundation
