The City of Vancouver is hosting a public hearing about missing middle housing in low density neighbourhoods on September 14, 2023.

To add much-needed affordable housing, the city is proposing changes to:

  • allow missing middle housing of up to six units on a single lot in low density neighbourhoods; and
  • update current regulations and the permitting process to make missing middle housing easier to build.

Currently, only a limited range of housing options are allowed including houses, laneway homes, and duplexes.

When: September 14, 2023 1 p.m.

Where: virtual and in-person attendance at the Council Chamber, third floor, Vancouver City Hall.

Send your comments before the meeting so council has time to review them.

Register to speak up to one hour before the hearing starts:

  • by phoning 604-829-4238 30 minutes before the hearing starts
  • in-person on the day of the public hearing; 30 minutes before the start of the hearing at city hall

When the registered speakers' list is completed and if you haven't yet spoken and would still like to, follow the phone instructions provided by the chair or attend in person and approach the podium when the chair calls for additional speakers.

Note: you don’t have to be a local business owner or resident of Vancouver to speak at this public hearing.
