ICBC is phasing out insurance decals after allowing BC drivers to renew their vehicle insurance policies online as of May 1, 2022.

Decals

BC drivers will no longer be required to display a licence plate validation decal.

You have the choice to leave on the current decal or remove it.

Online renewals

Through ICBC’s new renewal site, qualified BC vehicle owners can:

  • renew auto insurance policies up to 44 days before a policy expires;
  • apply for select discounts;
  • update the drivers listed on their policy; and
  • modify how they use their vehicle.

In-person renewals

Online renewals are optional - you can still renew your insurance through an insurance broker.

You must renew your insurance in person if your policy is:

  • For a jointly owned vehicle.
  • For a leased vehicle.
  • For a company-owned vehicle.
  • For a motorcycle.
  • For a trailer.
  • For a collector vehicle.
  • A commercial policy.
  • Expired.

You’ll also need to renew in person if you have outstanding debt with ICBC, or want to add, remove or change optional coverages.
